Radio advertising: from campaign objective to delivery

Radio advertising involves both creating the message and arranging its broadcast. Start with the audience and geographical area you need, then ask the station or sales house for a media proposal and delivery requirements. Producing the ad is a separate task. SpotFactory helps you prepare the brief; its planned generator does not currently create files or reserve airtime.

Give the media conversation a clear starting point

Describe the catchment area, campaign period and action you want the audience to take. A local opening and a destination campaign may need different coverage even if they share a similar budget. Ask the media contact how the proposed schedule relates to your objective and what information they need from you. Keep the written proposal so the creative brief can reflect the actual placement rather than a general idea of radio advertising.

Plan what changes over the campaign

A message announcing an event should not continue unchanged after the event has happened. Record the purpose and active dates of each version before scripting. Decide whether the opening message needs more explanation than a reminder. If several locations are involved, identify which ending belongs to which station or region. These distinctions prevent a well-produced recording from carrying the wrong invitation at the moment it is broadcast.

Agree on responsibilities

Someone must approve the commercial facts, someone must check the listening experience and someone must confirm technical acceptance. Music permissions need a named owner as well. Ask whether any production offered within a media proposal has limits on revisions, reuse or distribution. Do not assume that the station’s acceptance of a file confirms every underlying permission. Put the relevant approvals and the final script in the same campaign folder.

Prepare the handover before the deadline

Obtain the station’s required duration, audio specification, submission route and deadline early enough to allow corrections. Send an unambiguous version identifier and ask for confirmation of receipt and acceptance. The planned SpotFactory service has no confirmed automated delivery capability or export catalogue. Its current local briefing can organise requirements, but it does not place a media order, generate a broadcast file or confirm production pricing. Treat these as separate decisions to resolve with the relevant parties.

Frequently asked questions

Does paying for production buy airtime?

Do not assume so. The proposal should show whether production and broadcast are separate, what each covers and who is responsible for booking the schedule.

Can a radio ad be reused online?

Check both the recipient’s technical requirements and the permissions covering the script, voice and music. A file that is ready for radio is not automatically cleared for another use.

Prepare your brief ↗

Media production experience since 2003 informs the rules for SpotFactory’s planned generator. For a radio brief, identify the message that needs to land first and the point where the advertiser’s name should be heard clearly.
